Individual Learning Plans Dr. Seuss Style

ILPs Dr. Seuss Style
(author unknown)

Do you like these ILPs?
I do not like these ILPs
I do not like them, Geez Louise
We test, we check
We plan, we meet
But nothing ever seems complete.

Would you, could you
like the form?

I do not like the form I see
Not page 1, not 2, not 3
Another change
A brand new box
I think we all
Have lost our rocks.

Could you all meet here or there?

We could not all meet here or there.
We cannot all fit anywhere!
Not in a room.
Not in the hall.
There seems to be no space at all.

Would you, could you meet again?

I cannot meet again next week
No lunch, no prep
Please hear me speak.
No not at dusk. No, not at dawn
At 4 p.m. I should be gone.

Could you hear while all speak out?
Would you write the words they spout?

I could not hear, I would not write

This does not need to be a fight.
Sign here, date there,
Mark this, check that
Beware the student's ad-vo-cat(e).

You do not like them
So you say
Try again, try again!
And you may.

If you will let me be,
I will try again
You'll see.

Say!

I almost like these ILPs!
I think I'll write 6003.
And I will practice day and night
Until they say
"You've got it right!"

  1. Hi Sue! Funny blog post today! You've been really busy and have such a wealth of resources for everyone.
How's your class? We are almost in our 5th week of school! Time is flying!
Our class will come visit your site soon.
We are just learning about blogs.

  2. Hi Carolyn,
    No class this year.
I have been working as a travelling teacher, supporting teachers working with students with autism. I have a huge regional area to cover. One school is 140km from where I live and many at least a one hour drive to visit each way so I am spending a lot of time in the car travelling.
I have developed a regional autism Ning network this year. We really need to work that way as the travelling times to visit schools can swollow up so much of our potential support time. I have spent a lot of hours online working on that so I have neglected my blog of late. It is school holidays in Victoria now so I have had some time to reconnect with the blog again. I hope that 2 weeks is long enough to re-develop a good blogging habit.

  3. Hi Sue, I am a great fan of Dr Seuss and just love this ILP version. I'm off to an ILP PD in a couple of weeks I may need to share it with some collegues on the day !!! As far as the 2 weeks being long enough..... we are one week into them and I could do with another 3 weks to get on top of things. I'm off to Latrobe on Friday to inspire new graduates into the special education sector. Enjoy your holidays and thanks again for making me smile.
    Cheers

  4. Hi Mary,
I know you will knock 'em dead. It would be great to get a few more graduates into special ed training. My dream would be to see more mainstream schools employing special education teachers, rather than having kids in specialist settings.
    Enjoy your holidays.
